TRACES SERIES

My newest and ongoing collection, Traces, studies moments of pleasure and pain in a highly decorative manner.  Eyelet lace, signifier of youth and innocence, is impressed into metal and revealed with enamel, recalling events burned in the memory and manifested by images on the flesh.  Virginal purity, the puncture of a first piercing, a scratch on the skin, are all treated as jewel-like treasures to be accumulated over the course of one’s life.

Continuing my exploration of the body, this time with flesh and skin, Traces is inspired by Victorian mourning jewelry and the art of tattoos.  The process of enameling, which involves high temperature firing, emulates the process of tattooing, while the somber nature of Victorian jewelry evokes the bittersweet recollection of past remembrances.  Please visit again, as more pieces are added to this collection.
